Obama’s half-brother arrested on charge of marijuana possession

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:39 am

NAIROBI, Kenya (CNN) — George Obama, the half-brother of U.S. President Barack Obama, has been arrested by Kenyan police on a charge of possession of marijuana, police said Saturday.

nspector Augustine Mutembei, the officer in charge, said Obama was arrested on charges of possession of cannabis, known in Kenya as Bhang, and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday, Mutembei said.

He is being held at Huruma police post in the capital of Nairobi.

Speaking from behind bars, Obama denied the allegations.

“They took me from my home,” he said, “I don’t know why they are charging me.”

George Obama and the president barely know each other, though they have met. George Obama was one of the president’s few close relatives who did not go to the inauguration in Washington last week.

In his memoir, “Dreams from My Father,” Barack Obama describes meeting George as a “painful affair.” Barack Obama’s trip to Kenya meant meeting family he had never known.

CNN tracked down George Obama in August and found him at a small house in Huruma, a Nairobi slum, where he lives with his mother’s extended family. His birth certificate shows that he is Barack Obama’s half-brother.

The two men share a Kenyan father. In the memoir, Barack Obama struggles to reconcile with his father after he left him and his mother when he was just a child.

Barack Obama Sr. died in a car accident when George was just 6 months old. Like his half-brother, George hardly knew his father.

George was his father’s last child and had not been aware of his famous half-brother growing up.

Unlike his grandmother in Kogelo, in western Kenya, George Obama had received little attention from the media until reports about him surfaced in August.

The reports sprung from an Italian Vanity Fair article saying George Obama lived in a shack and was “earning less than a dollar a day.” Those reports left George Obama angry.

“I was brought up well. I live well even now,” he said. “The magazines, they have exaggerated everything.

“I think I kind of like it here. There are some challenges, but maybe it is just like where you come from, there are the same challenges,” Obama said.

Obama, who is in his mid-20s, said at the time that he was learning to become a mechanic and was active in youth groups in Huruma. He said he tried to help the community as much as he can.

New Nokia Smartphone Patent Features Swiveling Widescreen and QWERTY

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:09 am

A new patent from Nokia shows a pretty interesting new design: a full widescreen that can swivel behind a QWERTY keyboard so only half the screen is visible.

When held in one position, the phone looks a lot like Nokia’s traditional QWERTY candybars, but the screen can swivel up and out to present a widescreen, presumably for media or web browsing, apps that need a lot of screen real estate. It’s a cool way to combine the appeal of a giant touchscreen with the utility of a QWERTY keyboard, except unlike sliders like the T-Mobile G1 or the Sidekick, the keys are always available on this concept. The screen can also apparently rotate side to side, though I’m not really sure what use could be had from that.

It’s just a patent, and I’m sure there are a number of reasons why this idea won’t come to fruition (how is that screen attached?). But I like the idea and maybe we’ll see elements of it in future products from Nokia.

Valentine’s Dinner Recipe - Venison Au Poivre For Two

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:39 pm

Venison is engaging, unusual and incredibly good for you. Thanks to companies like Donald Russell and Blackface, both online butchers based in Scotland, it is now incredibly quiet to place an order on the internet and have a box of steaks arrive on your doorstep a few days later. What’s more, it is better value than beef at the flash.

Steak au poivre may be a seventies cult dish, but there are reasons why dishes become cult in the first place. The creamy brazenness laced with the flavor of brandy and dark, rich-scented peppercorns feels incredibly luxurious, remarkably if you pair it with venison instead of the more usual beef. It may be a simple dish but it tastes a million dollars.

Venison au Poivre for Two

Preparation time: 5-10 minutes

Cooking time: 5-10 minutes

Ingredients

• 1 tbsp each of knavish and white peppercorns

• 4 venison medallions

• 30g butter

• ? onion or 2 baby shallots

• 1/4 beef look at cube

• 100ml brandy

• 150ml water

• 75ml crème fraiche

TIP:

The secret is to take the steaks out of the fridge about 10 minutes before you cook them so that they can crop up b grow up to room temperature. Then, the only other must is to get your pan (a heavy-bottomed frying-pan is ideal) smoking hot before you even add fat to it. That way you can really sear the steak at the highest temperature practical.

Method:

Up to two hours before you are ready to eat, crush the peppercorns in a pestle and mortar and press them into the medallions. The pestle and mortar gives the peppercorns the mere texture for this dish, but if you don’t have one, put the peppercorns into a hard-wearing plastic bag and bash them with a rolling pin. Leave the meat aside for the spray flavour to penetrate the meat. Pre-heat the oven to 60C and put in two plates to warm.

Five minutes before you are ready to eat, animate a large heavy-bottomed frying-pan until it is smoking hot and then add half the butter. When the butter is sizzling (the pan should now be extremely hot), add the medallions and cook on one side for 2 minutes (if the medallions are thin you could cook for less - say 90 seconds), before turning and cooking for a further 60-90 seconds.

Venison is very prefer so is best eaten rare or it tends to get dry and chewy. When eaten rare the meat is so tender that it is almost like piercing through butter. It will continue cooking in the oven while it rests so put the medallions on one of the plates whilst you make the sauce.

Add the go of the butter to the pan, turn it down to a medium heat and add the shallots and stock cube. Sweat for five minutes so that the shallots soften but do not mask before pouring in the brandy and water to de-glaze the pan. Simmer the juices rapidly for a few minutes before turning the heat unerringly down and stirring in the crème fraiche.

Simmer for a few minutes more to reduce the crème fraiche and check for seasoning Serve with a crunchy, green salad and some small, waxy potatoes that you can either roast until crisp in the oven, or steam until tender. It is savoury accompanied with some kind of jelly like rosehip, quince or redcurrant.

Executive Office Suites - Rent Or Stay at Home?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:09 pm

Bottom line - renting an executive suite can be more costly in terms of money out of your pocket than working from home. For new businesses or existing businesses that are struggling, these extra dollars can be critical. However, the costs in lack of productivity and distractions can be significantly more than the direct costs of rent.

Often it’s hard to measure these types of costs and or to really realize them. One quick and easy way to do this is simply add up all of your monthly costs (both business and personal) and divide them by 30 days. By doing this you’ll know your daily “burn rate”. When you start realizing that every day you’re going through cash, regardless of how tight you are with your money, and or if you work from home or from an office space, you realize you have to be productive or you’ll go out of business.

The real problem of working from home is the distractions; fifteen minute here to help bring in the groceries, 10 minute there to let in the dog, 20 minutes to discuss your relationship with your significant other, etc. Also, the lack of total focus by being at home can cut into your time as well. All of this just adds up to a lot of wasted working time and you may come to the conclusion that it is much more costly than paying rent for an executive suite.

Additional benefits include have a secretary answer your phone, which gives a tremendous professional feel for a small business that might not be able to afford a full time receptionist. Other little things like having the trash taken out, or having a reliable copy and fax machine can be such a relief and time saver so you can focus on your bigger, more important issues like calling your clients to bring in more revenue.

LG Shine review

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:37 am

Following on from the success of the Chocolate phone, LG’s next release in its “Black Label” series is the Shine. Like the Chocolate, the LG Shine is a slide-design phone, and is very much intended as a fashion statement. Whereas the Chocolate was dark and mysterious, with its hidden touch sensitive keypad, the Shine positively sparkles with light and has a more conventional keypad. The reason for the name “Shine” is that the phone is highly reflective, having a shiny stainless steel body and a large LCD display that turns into a mirror when not in use. It’s definitely a cool-looking phone and one that will attract attention. The photo here doesn’t do it justice. Be aware though that the metal casing does have a tendency to pick up fingerprints and scratches.

When in use the display lights up, dimming after a few seconds of inactivity. Leave the phone for a little while longer and it miraculously turns into a mirror - an effect that will have you watching with anticipation for at least the first week of ownership! Just be aware that the mirror screen isn’t that easy to see in sunlight. Below the screen is a roller with two buttons. These let you navigate around the icons on screen when the phone is closed. It has to be said that the roller isn’t the easiest user input method ever invented. LG should have learned their lesson after the problems with the touch-sensitive buttons on the Chocolate! Also on the side of the phone is the MP3 button, which lets you use the phone as a music payer when closed. It’s a neat and effective design. Open up the slide and you find a fairly conventional metal keypad. It’s not touch-sensitive thankfully, but is almost flat. In practice the keypad poses no difficulties and is similar to the keypad found on Motorola’s RAZR series of ultraslim phones. It lights up blue when in use.

In terms of features, the Shine is not lacking. The camera has 2 megapixels and uses a Schneider-Kreuznach lens. Now that 2 or 3 megapixel cameras are available in phones, it’s the quality of the optics that dictate picture quality, and the Shine does produce good quality pictures for a phone. The camera is equipped with autofocus, and has an LED light for night-time photography. It also has a video camera. The display is of high quality, being a TFT screen with 262,00 colours and 240 x 320 pixels - virtually the industry standard for high-end phones nowadays. As already mentioned, there’s an MP3 player that supports a wide range of file formats: MP3, AAC, AAC+ and AAC++. A stereo headset is supplied, and an optional stereo Bluetooth headset is also available. The LG Shine supports MicroSD memory cards with capacity of up to 2 Gbytes, so there’s plenty of storage for music. You could realistically use a phone like this as an iPod replacement. Other features worth noting are Java games, a fast EDGE connection for downloading data, and Flight Mode for using the multimedia functions when not connected to a network. The battery life of the Shine is probably a couple of days in normal use, although the battery indicator doesn’t seem to be very reliable.

We like the LG Shine, but it has more than its fair share of issues. It creates a very good first impression, with its metal and mirror looks, and when handling the phone, we get an impression of quality and durability. The stainless steel casing adds to the weight, but the phone is very slim and feels nice in the hand. All of the features that you’d expect from a high-end 2.5G phone are here. However, there are downsides to having a shiny metal phone: it scratches and gets covered in fingerprints, and the mirror screen is difficult to see in sunlight. The roller is simply unnecessary and annoying. The ringtone volume is too low and the reception seems to be worse than average. There have been reports of the Shine shutting down and then refusing to switch back on, but these are quite rare. If this happens to you, try removing the battery and trying again. If this fails, it will have to go back to the shop for a replacement. The Shine looks good, but just like the Chocolate, it’s not the most user friendly phone that you can buy. Alternatives worth considering are the LG Chocolate, Motorola RIZR, Nokia 7373, Nokia 7390 and Samsung E900.

Features of the LG Shine include:

* 2 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach lens, autofocus, flash and 2x digital zoom

* Video recorder

* Display: TFT, 262,000 colours, 240 x 320 pixels

* Stereo music player (MP3, AAC, AAC+ and AAC++ file formats)

* MP3, AAC and AAC+ ringtones (40 voice polyphonic)

* Messaging: SMS, EMS, MMS, Email

* 3D Java games

* Document Viewer (.ppt, .doc, .pdf, .xls and .txt files)

* Flight Mode

* Caller ID (photo / video)

* Connectivity: Bluetooth 1.2, USB

* Memory: MicroSD memory card (up to 2 Gbytes)

* WAP 2.0, EDGE

* Triband

* Size: 100 x 51 x 14 mm

* Weight: 119g

* Battery standby: 280 hours

Secrets About Teeth Whitening

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:20 am

Within the last 10 years the ground of teeth whitening, both in the

dental office and at home, has changed immensely. Essentially, there are two different methods to get whiter teeth: dental (in-aid) whitening, and an at home treatment. Discover a few secrets about teeth whitening that your dentist hopes I’ll never tell you!

METHOD #1: DENTAL (IN-Thing) TEETH WHITENING

I can tell you from first-hand experience, dentists LOVE the patient who wants to have a teeth whitening moving in the dental office. Back in the early ’90’s there was only one option available.

Your dentist would make molds of your teeth, send them off to a lab, and in 5-10 days away with back your custom fitted teeth whitening mouthpiece. Then you would sit in the dental chair for 1-2 hours, with these plastic teeth whitening molds filled with peroxide (at a very low concentration) pressed against your teeth and gums.

After 3-4 visits, your teeth would be officially declared whiter (and mostly they were), and you would be sent home with a nice $500 - $1,000 bill to pay. And with whiter teeth of course.

I’ll be the first to admit, dental division teeth whitening has come a long way in the past 10 years. Now the most popular teeth whitening dental advocacy procedure known as Laser Bleaching (or Power Bleaching, Argon Bleaching, etc.) is a shorter process. Basically this teeth whitening advance consists of the application of a concentrated peroxide gel onto your teeth, then for the next hour you sit in a dental chair with your mouth wide liberal, while a special light (usually argon) is shined onto the teeth whitening paste that in turn chemically reacts with the peroxide to thorough the teeth whitening process in as short a time period as possible.

This teeth whitening box office does work. Although, many dentists say that you get a whiter smile by repeated tray applications because the teeth whitening peroxide stays in correspond with with your teeth for longer periods of time. The downside is that you still get stuck with that fat $500 - $1,000 bill (at least for the good teeth whitening resume).And you still need to either come back 6 months later for another teeth whitening (excuse me - a touch up!), or you’re given some take relaxed whitening items. Why then did you spend $500 - $1,000 dollars for an in-office teeth whitening procedure?

Fortunately, as most other things in existence, technology stepped in to make teeth whitening easier and more affordable!

METHOD #2: Competent in TEETH WHITENING

I’ll say this once just to get it out in the open, it’s now possible (in almost all cases) to achieve “dental office” standing teeth whitening, from the comfort of your own home! “At-Home” teeth whitening has taken a bite out of (pathetic for the pun) the “in-office” power bleaching systems, where millions of corporate advertising dollars now compete with the comfort of teeth whitening at homewards.

How to overcome gastritis

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:34 am

Gastritis is not a sickness on its own but a symptom of abnormal digestion. It is characterized by inflammation or irritation of the lining of the stomach. It affects millions of people worldwide. It can be divided into 3 categories: (1) erosive and hemorrhagic gastritis (2) non erosive and nonspecific gastritis (3) limited gastritis indicative of a disorder.

Gastritis can be due to a number of causes including excessive alcohol consumption, prolonged use of non steroidal anti-rousing drugs, also known as NSAIDs, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, or bacterial infection. Commonly, the bacterium that causes the swelling of gastritis is the same as that which causes most stomach ulcers. Sometimes gastritis can develop after major surgery, burns, traumatic impairment.

Symptoms of gastritis include abdominal discomfort, pain, bloating or gas, irritation, headache, vague malaise, nausea and sometimes vomiting. Aside the use of medications, there are ways to combat gastritis by selective food inclusions or eliminations.

Forceful actions to overcome gastritis include the following:

1. Limit or where possible eliminate your intake of unassuming sugar (sweet, fruit, and milk), flour, caffeine, alcohol, fatty foods, spicy foods and tomato products. These foods exasperate the stomach lining, increase the production of stomach acid and weaken the sphincter at the end of the esophagus causing the spear-carrier acid to move up the esophagus.

2. Coconut water is an excellent remedy for gastritis. It gives the stomach the imperative rest and provides vitamins and minerals.
